Ours Fitzroy
Johnston Street, Melbourne
Where it all started. A shopfront, gallery and apartment in Fitzroy.
The Tip Shop
Fitzroy, Melbourne
Feeling a duty to reimagine interesting found objects into impressive pieces of art, Ours founder, Zane created The Tip Shop.
Raised on regular excursions to the tips and scrapyards of country Victoria, Zane developed a special affection for hidden gems found in junkyards; at the back of sheds, buried under rubble and piles of discarded metal and wood.
Combined with a love for American teen movies, think Grease and The Breakfast Club, Zane’s propensity for hoarding soon led to a huge collection of old-school lockers. His love for these pieces - often found banged up and rusted - was rarely shared by others with the same appreciation and so he began to restore them.
Therein the Tip Shop was born, a series of salvaged school lockers which were massaged back to life with a hammer, an angle-grinder and a coat of high-gloss paint. Before being framed and fitted with custom-made pieces of Australian hardwood.
The lockers were repurposed as cupboards, sideboards and other household furniture.
Broken Pieces
Melbourne, Australia
A photographic series using Broken Altar as a centrepiece. Featuring a surprise guest appearance by the wind, which dramatically changed the creative direction of the shoot.
Produced by Alt-House and shot by Jess Brohier across three locations in Melbourne.
Throughout the series, the shattered mirror reflects alternative scenes, each styled with various props that were cut and placed to appear buried—including a park bench, a basketball hoop and ball, and a beach set.
